On 16 June, in partnership with Vuka Research Clinic we hosted the second Youth Day Debate to commemorate National Youth Day. This year’s topic was “A life Beyond Foreign aid. We invited young people to reflect on whether South Africa🇿🇦 should continue to rely on international support or move towards self-sufficiency🌍💸. Two teams of young debaters tackled the question from opposing sides. One group made the case for continued aid, highlighting existing inequalities and resource gaps. The other group challenged this view, emphasising the need for long-term independence and stronger local systems. The audience was filled with young people from Khayelitsha and Gugulethu in Cape Town, who actively engaged in the conversation by interacting with the debaters and sharing their reflections during the open floor discussions🧠🔥. Amelia Mfiki opened the session by offering historical and current context around international aid in the country. The debate was chaired by Khanyisa Vedala, who kept the conversation focused and engaging throughout. This debate is part of our ongoing effort to create spaces where young people can critically engage with complex social and health issues. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DsNhZQikF/?mibextid=wwXIfr
