Passage: Nelson Mandela – A Hero of Freedom Nelson Mandela was a famous leader from South Africa who fought against apartheid, a system where people were treated unfairly because of their skin color. He was born on 18th July 1918 in a village called Mvezo. From a young age, Mandela believed in equality and justice for all people. He became a lawyer and later joined the African National Congress (ANC) to fight against racial discrimination. Because of his efforts to bring justice and freedom, he was sent to prison for 27 years. Even in jail, he remained strong and hopeful. In 1994, Nelson Mandela became the first black President of South Africa. He worked hard to bring peace between black and white citizens and is respected all over the world for his wisdom and forgiveness. He received many awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize.
