🎬 Under the Turban: The Reign of Emir Sulu Gambari
🎞️ Act 1: The Arrival of a King
Setting: Ilorin, 1915. Morning mist rises over the hills. Horses neigh. The town buzzes with anticipation. The crescent moon lingers faintly as the sun begins to rise.

[FADE IN]
EXT. ILORIN CITY GATES – EARLY MORNING
Drummers beat slow rhythms. Women ululate. Horsemen in white turbans and embroidered kaftans ride in procession. A sea of colors. The smell of frankincense drifts through the air.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
(Calm, regal tone)
In the year 1915, Ilorin stirred with destiny.
A new king, chosen by wisdom and bloodline, would rise to carry a city between worlds.
Between the Qur’an and the Crown… between tradition and time.
CUT TO:
EXT. PALACE GATES – CONTINUOUS
A boy runs barefoot. He passes women sweeping, traders arranging kola nuts, elders whispering prayers.
BOY (excitedly)
"Mai martaba na zuwa! The king is coming!"
Camera pans up to the palace gate, adorned with Islamic inscriptions and Yoruba carvings.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
His name was Sulu Gambari...
Son of warriors, student of scholars.
He would sit where ancestors once ruled —
in the court of Afonja, under the shadow of Shehu Alimi’s legacy.
---
INT. PALACE COURTYARD – LATER
A procession enters. At its center: a calm man in white, his turban golden-threaded. His eyes, deep and steady.
CROWD (chanting softly)
"Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!"
(God is Great!)
A British official stands stiffly nearby, hat in hand, observing. The emir nods at him, but says nothing yet.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
The white man came with papers and power.
But Sulu Gambari came with people and prayer.
And in Ilorin, that was the stronger bond.
---
CLOSE-UP: EMIR SULU GAMBARI
He lifts his hand. Silence falls. He speaks calmly.
SULU GAMBARI
"Ẹ̀yin ọmọ Ilọrin… My people.
Today, I do not just wear a turban. I wear your trust.
May Allah guide me to rule with ‘ilimi’ (knowledge), ‘ododo’ (justice), and ‘lafiya’ (peace)."
---
EXT. SKY ABOVE PALACE – CONTINUOUS
A single white falcon flies overhead.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
And so began his reign.
A leader not just of Ilorin, but of hearts and heritage.
They called him Mai Sarauta — the one who rules with dignity.
But to his people, he was more...
He was Baba Ilọrin.
