🫶🏾 Today is World Refugee Day, when we stand in solidarity with people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution or crisis.
⚠️ At the end of 2024, 122.6 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide – an increase of over 5 million compared to the year before.
Refugees face unique and compounding health challenges:
🔹 Disrupted access to care
🔹 Exacerbated chronic illnesses
🔹 Elevated mental health needs
🔹 Discrimination and isolation
🔹 Poor living and working conditions
🔹 Linguistic and cultural barriers to services
💪🏽 Refugees bring skills, resilience and cultural enrichment. When we safeguard their well-being, we unlock their full potential and strengthen our communities in return.
💡 Access to health care must be continuous, timely, culturally responsive and inclusive. Health workers who are trained to understand diverse needs are at the heart of building resilient, people-centred systems.
