🩺𝐃𝐱: Bartholin Gland Cyst 💡𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚏𝚒𝚛𝚖 the presence of Unilateral Bartholin Gland Cyst after aspiration of thick, milky fluid. - Notice the pink, bulging cyst protruding between the vul*var lips — 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕔𝕝𝕒𝕤𝕤𝕚𝕔 𝕤𝕚𝕘𝕟 𝕠𝕗 𝔹𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕝𝕚𝕟 ℂ𝕪𝕤𝕥. 💉𝕋𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕥𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥: The cyst responded to the injection of 10 ml of 2% Lugol's iodine into the cavity following evacuation of the content. 📍𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙚: ▪️Wash with KMnO₄ solution ▪️Caudal epidural with Lignocaine 2% @ 1ml/100kg BW ▪️Fluid evacuated ▪️Infuse 10 ml of 2% Lugol’s iodine ▪️Inj. Meloxicam(IM) ➕ Chlorpheniramine (IM) ▪️ Recommend Mineral mixture supplementation ▪️Antibiotics (if secondary infections) 📑𝙊𝙪𝙩𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚: Can be recover completely within 3 days. No recurrence. 🛑𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The glands of Bartholin which secrete mucus most actively at estrus, have a tubuloalveolar structure. They are 2 in number, one on each side of vestibule; each has a single duct lined with transitional epithelium which opens in the lateral wall of vestibule about 2.5 cm caudal to vag*ina. 📍Formation of retention cysts arising from occlusive lesions of duct, as in metaplasia of lining epithelium associated with chronic hyper- estrogenism in cows with ovarian follicular cysts,Trauma & extension of local necrotic vag*initis leading to obstruction of duct opening as causes for Bartholin gland cyst seen in older cows. 📌 Usually presence of cystic Bartholin is unilateral, which disturb shape of external genitalia & a degree of vag*initis occur. with this defect, considered presence of Bartholin glands as reservoirs for pathogenic organims. 🖋️𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙚: The cyst cause no problems at parturition nor it interfere with conception. However, since vul*var lips are kept opened by cystic enlargement, contamination of vag*ina, vestibule & vulva with feces & dirt may occur. ▪️May interfere with AI. ▪️Often mistaken for prolapse ▪️ Does not affect calving /conception.
