📑 DRY COW THERAPY 🐮 This is a preventive treatment given to cows when drying off to prevent mastitis at least 6-8 weeks to calving .Note most lactational mastitis originate during the dry period. 📍Dry Cow Therapy: protects the livestock against any intra-mammary infections that they may develop or may have contracted during the period of lactation and provides a shield against new infections during the dry period. 🏳️The high risk period is 1 week after drying off and 1 week to delivery. 🖋️Success of drying off will be determined by how much milk the cow is producing hence concentrates should be withdrawn and more fibrous fodder be introduced. 🙏🏻For better results ,milking shouldn't be stopped abruptly. 🩺The treatment itself involve use of intramammary antibiotics. 📑PROCEDURE: 1) First its advisable to dry the cow after morning milking 2)Completely milk the cow 3)Clean and disinfect the teat-can use a teat dip or methylated spirit 4) Administer the intrammary dry cow drug using the tube 5) Again disinfect the teats 6) Allow the cow to stand in a clean environment for a few minutes 💡Prevent infections throughout the dry period by: 1.clean environment & cow comfort 2.Good nutrition 3.Reduce stress to the cow
