*Beagle Watch team tracks down vehicle involved in theft of motor vehicle headlights*
On Friday afternoon, our team received a notification regarding a vehicle of interest in the Northcliff area. Our CCTV team immediately started investigating, making use of our Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) system, and managed to find a vehicle with a similar description that had been involved in an incident of attempted theft from a motor vehicle in Northcliff. The Beagle Watch Specialised Crime Unit was dispatched, but lost the vehicle in Westbury.
On Monday morning, our LPR system in Newlands picked up that the vehicle was on the move again. Our Specialised Crime Unit immediately responded, tracking the vehicle to business premises in Newlands. While our team was surveilling, the driver abandoned the vehicle, leaving the keys and his personal belongings behind.
Upon further inspection, it was confirmed that the vehicle had cloned number plates and is a stolen vehicle, which can be linked to various cases of theft or attempted theft of vehicle headlights in the area. The vehicle and the driver's belongings were handed over to Sophiatown SAPS.
