Prof. Stefan Fajans was my hero from my medical college days. When I was in my final year MBBS, I read the famous paper describing Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) by Tattersall and Stefan Fajans. Ever since that time, my interest in MODY was kindled. I published a series of papers between 1985 and 1988 describing the clinical aspects of MODY. I used to regularly meet Prof. Fajans during the American Diabetes Association (ADA) conferences, where I would present my work, and he would make it a point to come for my talks as well as my presentations, including my poster presentations. He guided me in my work on MODY in the initial years.
