Later, I drew great inspiration from Prof. Andrew Hattersley and his group at the University of Exeter in the UK, who have also done pioneering work in the field of monogenic diabetes, including MODY. When I was invited to deliver the Stefan Fajans Lecture, it was a very emotional moment for me — to be at the University of Michigan and deliver the oration in the name of one of my heroes from medical college days. I had a memorable visit to the University of Michigan and learned a lot from my visit. I salute these masters in the field of monogenic diabetes and MODY who have been a great inspiration to my work.
