Loveworthy Peace Nyamungunda appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court this week, where he was remanded in custody until June 30, 2025. He is facing two counts of impersonating a public official, which stem from two separate incidents involving municipal traffic violations. The saga began on May 6, 2025, when Mutare Municipal Police clamped Nyamungunda’s Toyota Wish for a parking violation. In a bid to have the fine waived, he allegedly approached a municipal officer and claimed to be a ZACC official. He produced a fake identification card marked “Southern Africa Regional Anti-Corruption Organisation (SARACO)”. When his first attempt failed, Nyamungunda escalated the matter to a Municipal Police Inspector and repeated the false claims. Convinced he was on official government duty, the Inspector released the vehicle without imposing a fine. Undeterred, Nyamungunda allegedly tried the same trick again on June 12, after his vehicle was clamped for not displaying a valid parking disc. He presented the same fake ID and again claimed to be from ZACC. This time, however, the Inspector grew suspicious and reported the incident to a Principal Security Officer, who then notified ZACC. Nyamungunda was promptly arrested.
