#kenya: *KENYA RAILWAYS TO UNVEIL MOMBASA COMMUTER RAIL TO EASE SGR TRANSFERS*
The Kenya Railways is set to launch the Mombasa Commuter Rail, offering a seamless link between the Miritini SGR Terminus and Mombasa’s Central Business District.
For years, passengers arriving via the Madaraka Express have faced the hassle of a costly 11-kilometre transfer into the city using matatus, taxis, or boda bodas.
This new service will eliminate that inconvenience by running multiple daily trips between Miritini and the old Mombasa station, with stops at key locations like Changamwe and Shimanzi.
The project, which cost KSh 4.2 billion, includes upgraded platforms, modern ticketing systems, and refurbished Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains.
The official launch date hasn’t been announced yet, but the countdown is on.
