#kenya: *GOVERNOR WAIGURU STRONGLY CONDEMNS POLICE BRUTALITY ON CITIZENS*
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has taken a bold stand against police brutality, calling for immediate accountability following two deeply troubling incidents: the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody and the fatal shooting of Boniface Kariuki, a street vendor in Nairobi.
Speaking at Kamiigua Grounds in Kutus, Waiguru condemned what she described as a “dangerous trend” in law enforcement.
She emphasized that no provocation, verbal or otherwise, justifies the use of lethal force, stating, “If anger justifies action, where will this country end up?”
She urged that police officers must be held to the same legal standards as civilians and stressed that leadership demands restraint, even in the face of criticism.
“If someone cannot handle public pressure, they should not be entrusted with a firearm,” she said.
