Air Quality Health Advisory for Wednesday, June 4 Today’s AQI is forecast to reach 105 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) due to elevated levels of ground-level ozone. Air quality affects everyone but those who are part of sensitive groups—such as children, older adults, and people with asthma, lung disease, or heart conditions—are at higher risk. At this level, experts recommend that children and other sensitive individuals avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the afternoon and early evening when ozone levels are typically highest. Watch for symptoms: • Coughing • Throat irritation • Shortness of breath • Wheezing or chest tightness • Headache or dizziness • Fatigue • Watery or irritated eyes • Worsening of asthma or other lung conditions Call 911 for severe symptoms. Check current conditions on airnow.gov and get health guidance at nyc.gov/airquality. Ground-level ozone forms when sunlight reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These pollutants come from vehicles, construction equipment, industrial facilities, electric utilities, gasoline vapors, and chemical solvents.
