June 21 is #showyourstripes Day. These are NYC’s climate stripes. Each line shows a year of average temperature, from cooler blues to hotter reds. The trend is undeniable. Our city is heating up. Extreme heat is now the deadliest weather threat we face. It kills more New Yorkers each year than hurricanes, floods, or winter storms. The risk is greatest for older adults, people with chronic health conditions, and anyone without access to air conditioning. NYC Emergency Management is taking action. We’re opening Cooling Centers, issuing multilingual alerts, and expanding Cool Options to help New Yorkers stay safe. nyc.gov/beattheheat
