MDEC supported the Tech For Good Institute (TFGI) in organising a public seminar titled “The Evolution of Tech Governance in Southeast Asia: Spotlight on Malaysia” held at one of MDEC’s Malaysia Digital (MD) hubs, WORQ Subang. The event brought together stakeholders across sectors to explore key trends, regulatory developments, and policy priorities in Southeast Asia’s digital economy, with a focus on Malaysia. Ir. Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, Head of Digital Adoption at MDEC, delivered the opening remarks, emphasising cross-sector collaboration and the value of this platform in advancing Malaysia’s digital agenda. YM Ts. Tengku Mohd Azrul Tg Azhar, Director of Infrastructure & Services at MDEC, participated in a panel discussion alongside esteemed panellists; Dr. Noor Hasliza from Jabatan Digital Negara (JDN); Safuan Zairi from the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology & Innovation (MRANTI), Hafidzi Razali from the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MICCI) and Dr. Kanmani A/P Munusamy from University of Malaya. Moderated by Arifah Sharifuddin, Operations Director of TFGI, the session explored how adaptive regulations can support emerging technologies like AI and cloud computing, drive innovation through digital platforms and apply tools such as regulatory sandboxes to develop effective policy solutions. The session was then continued with a youth-focused roundtable discussion that gathered youth and mid-career professionals from Digital Ninja Alumni's and PDTI's Tech Club to discuss what builds next-generation confidence in the digital economy’s future. On top of increasing confidence, they stressed on alignment in university courses with industry needs, addressing the urban and rural technology adoption divide, identifying required skills and understanding the risks with the digital economy.
