Appearing before the Kwekwe Magistrates' Court, Mutero received an initial sentence of eight years, with two years suspended. On May 28, 2025, Mutero and an accomplice, Lazarus Moyo, who remains at large, carried out a premeditated armed robbery targeting a 33-year-old man in Msasa Park, Kwekwe. The victim had just returned home and parked his silver Mercedes-Benz in his yard. As he stepped out to secure the gate, he was ambushed by the duo. Mutero brandished a silver revolver, threatening the victim and ordering him to lie face down. During the incident, Moyo, armed with a black blow pistol, searched the vehicle and successfully stole US$1,400 from a cross bag within the glove compartment. After the robbery, the assailants fled the scene. The robbery was promptly reported to the police, leading to a swift investigation. This effort resulted in Mutero's arrest and the recovery of both firearms used in the crime. On June 12, 2025, the victim was able to positively identify Mutero as one of his attackers. Unfortunately, the stolen money was not recovered.
