*_Mnangagwa has failed to revive the economy - Tatenda Changambika_*
Millions of Zimbabweans continue to languish in poverty, having been conditioned to accept petty handouts—such as basic groceries—from ZANU-PF elites who fund these tokens through systemic looting and corruption. This culture of dependency and political patronage has become a hallmark of ZANU-PF's rule.

Recently, ZANU-PF and government officials announced that Zimbabwe holds over three tonnes of gold in its national reserves—placing it among the top gold-holding nations in Africa. Yet, this wealth does not translate into national prosperity. The economy remains moribund, with an estimated 95% of citizens unemployed. Since assuming power in 2017, Emmerson Mnangagwa has failed to revive the economy, instead entrenching corruption and enabling illicit business deals between government officials and politically connected business figures.
Despite these bleak realities, Zimbabwe's tobacco farmers have managed a remarkable feat—producing over 300 million kilograms of tobacco this season, valued at more than USD $1 billion. This success proves that Zimbabweans are capable of utilizing their land productively. However, even these achievements are being undermined. For example, the Springs Farm community now faces dispossession, as Minister Garwe—under Mnangagwa's directive—is attempting to hand over the land to Billy Rautenbach, a known associate, for conversion into residential stands.

The limited gains in agriculture and mining have done little to stimulate meaningful economic growth. The reason? Massive looting through inflated state tenders, often awarded to controversial businessmen like Kudakwashe Tagwirei and Wicknell Chivayo. These individuals have diverted public funds to buy luxury vehicles for ZANU-PF officials, celebrities, and social media influencers, all in an effort to sanitize and promote a corrupt regime while ordinary citizens suffer.
Tagwirei, emboldened by his corrupt wealth, has now infiltrated ZANU-PF’s inner circles. He has been appointed to the party’s Central Committee, effectively giving him influence over key decisions. In a disturbing development, Tagwirei is reportedly being positioned as Mnangagwa’s successor—bypassing the official ZANU-PF succession process, and sidelining Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
Mnangagwa’s goal appears clear: to stay in power beyond 2030 and to elevate his loyalists—including Tagwirei and Chivayo—regardless of the constitutional order. With Kembo Mohadi’s health deteriorating, Tagwirei is being positioned as Mnangagwa’s second-in-command, further entrenching kleptocracy.
Today, corruption is not just a byproduct of governance in Zimbabwe—it is the system. Buying loyalty with groceries and luxury cars is the new form of political mobilization. While the elites flourish, the vast majority of Zimbabweans are left behind, struggling to survive in a nation rich in resources but crippled by greed
