*ARTUZ FORGES AHEAD WITH PROTESTS DESPITE ARRESTS AND HARASSMENT* *21st June 2025* Hardly two days after teachers and Artuz members in Manicaland were arrested for staging a peaceful demonstration demanding a review of salaries, another province of Artuz working with the Parents Teachers Association staged another protest in Mashonaland East, petitioning government to deliver labor justice for teachers and quality education. ARTUZ maintains that they were not supposed to be arrested in the first place. Their demands were justifiable and legitimate. The protest process was peaceful and lawful. The arrest was an unnecessary strain on state resources, their personal comfort and their loved ones. ARTUZ reiterates that that government must pay teachers a fair wage, provide state funded education, restore vacation leave, recruit more teachers and provide for right to collective bargaining. *Way forward* ARTUZ will continue to vigorously engage its members and to challenge the injustices particularly in the Education sector. ARTUZ invites parents as key stakeholders in the Education system to come on board and add their voice in demanding a public education system that is inclusive, affordable and competent. ARTUZ also invites all teachers in Silent Monday where teachers are encouraged to be silent since the government of Dambudzo/Dubeko has always silenced teachers when they demand a living wage. The Second Republic has always silenced teachers when they said they can't afford a decent meal. ARTUZ, therefore, encourages teachers to be silent in the classroom where it matters most to the government. As ARTUZ we categorically state that teachers are not robots that can be manipulated willy nilly to please the oppressive regime.
