In a remarkable initiative to promote menstrual hygiene and awareness, the LoveAid Foundation, in collaboration with the Youth Impact Foundation (with the Youth Impact Parliament Forum of Women Parliamentarians), the Afadzato South Ghana Education Service, and the International Youth Network for UNSCR 2250, celebrated Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 under the theme "Together for a Period Friendly World." This impactful event reached 350 students across four community schools: Tafi Mador, Tafi Agome, Tafi Atome, and Tafi Abuife, located in the Afadzato South district.
Mrs. Comfort Akorfa Kpornu, the District Girls Education Officer for GES-Afadzato South, alongside our dedicated team, conducted an engaging practical demonstration of the menstrual cycle. Participants gained valuable insights into the proper usage and disposal of sanitary towels, debunked common myths surrounding menstruation, and enhanced menstrual health awareness among both boys and girls. This educational effort aligns perfectly with this year's theme, emphasizing inclusivity and understanding.
As part of the initiative, 350 sanitary pads were distributed, ensuring that students have access to essential menstrual hygiene products. Notably, the gender representation was commendable, with 70% of participants being girls and 30% boys, reflecting the Sustainable Development Goals' commitment to "Leaving No One Behind."
We were honored to have Madam Yvonne Akpene Amebrus, the Afadzato South District Director of GES, express her enthusiasm for the young volunteers dedicated to community service. She highlighted the importance of continued interventions, particularly for boys, to address the rising issue of drug abuse, specifically concerning red opioids in the district.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the Heads of Institutions, teaching staff, and the Circuit Girl Child Coordinator for their unwavering support and supervision throughout this initiative.
Together, we are committed to fostering a period-friendly world for all.
Together for a Period Friendly World!
