Consuming excessive salt along with minimal exercise is the quickest way to develop hypertension.
Imagine your blood vessels as regular water pipes. When you consume excessive salt, your body retains more water. This causes the pipes (your blood vessels) to become full and constricted due to the excess liquid trying to flow through.
Think of it like trying to push a crowd of people through a small door; the pressure would be immense! That’s what happens to your body when you consume too much salt.
Now, regarding exercise: when you don’t exercise or do it infrequently as if it were a chore, your heart muscles become sluggish, and the pipes don’t expand or function properly. They lose their elasticity and become rigid like an old rubber band. Thus, with too much water (from the salt) and stiff pipes (from lack of exercise), your heart has to exert extra effort to pump blood throughout the body.
This strain can lead to high blood pressure. If not managed properly, it can result in heart failure, a serious condition.
