Last evening at my Meet-the-People session, a resident came by and handed me a worn but well-kept book — an annual yearbook from Yio Chu Kang CC in the 1960s. As I flipped through the yellowed pages, names and faces from decades past came alive. Residents in neat collared shirts, community leaders standing proudly beside one another, pages filled with kampung spirit and togetherness. It struck me — so much has changed, yet the heart of Yio Chu Kang hasn’t. Back then, just like today, the mission was clear: to bring people together, to build friendships, and to look out for one another. That simple gesture reminded me why we do what we do.
