What if spirituality wasn’t about escaping the world—but facing it? In Episode 14 of Surah Al-Ma’arij, a powerful contrast is drawn between the world’s spiritual regimens—and the Quran’s. Most paths to inner peace are like peeling an onion: layer by layer, we try to remove ego, fear and trauma. But the Quran uses a different metaphor. It’s not an onion. It’s soil. Why? Because the goal isn’t just purity. It’s growth. Prayer in Islam is not a retreat from society. It’s a training ground for it. When we pray, we detox. When we give, we cultivate generosity. When we honor our promises and testify with integrity, we become rooted—resilient—ready. The Quran doesn’t teach us how to run from a corrupt world. It teaches us how to stand inside it with strength. And then, it does something revolutionary. It flips the hierarchy. Those who hoard wealth and mock the believers are not the honored ones. Those who bend in Salah, who stand for truth, who carry no worldly power—they are. “They are the ones honored in gardens.” (70:35) This is the Quran’s social order. Built not on class, fame or access—but on truth, prayer and sincerity.
