BISP to Launch Benazir Hunarmand Programme to Empower Beneficiaries Through Skills Training The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is set to take a major step beyond financial assistance with the launch of the Benazir Hunarmand Programme—a skills development initiative aimed at empowering BISP beneficiaries and their families. The programme will provide practical, demand-driven training to help people become self-reliant, secure better job opportunities, and break the cycle of poverty. President Asif Ali Zardari will officially launch the programme and its online Hunarmand Portal on June 21, which also marks the birthday of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. In preparation for the launch, BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid and Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad hosted a consultative workshop at BISP Headquarters. The event brought together what they called the “Friends of BISP”—representatives from the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, donor agencies, international organizations, and NGOs. All participants pledged strong collaboration to ensure the programme’s success. The Benazir Hunarmand Programme aims to make skills training a key driver for poverty reduction and economic empowerment across Pakistan, especially for women.
