18 die in Masvingo – Mutare road accidents PETRONILLA MUKAMURI 
MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – Eighteen people died in 13 accidents recorded within a 60km long stretch along the Masvingo – Mutare road since June 1, 2024, Officer Commanding Masvingo, Commissioner Frederick Mbengwa has said.
Mbengwa said this during a road traffic accident awareness campaign and prayer session held in Zishumbe last week. Zishumbe area is a well-known black spot with at least two accidents every week.
The awareness was attended by representatives from the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VED), Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Ministry of Health and Child Care, pastors among other stakeholders.
“Road accident statistics from June 1, 2024, ending May 2025 are as follows; seven accidents were recorded from 0 to 20 kilometers and 12 people died whilst seven were injured. Two accidents were recorded from the 21km peg to the 40km peg and 2 people died, there were no injuries. Four accidents were recorded from the 41km peg to the 60km peg and four people died.
