WHY I FOUNDED DYSLEXIA TANZANIA AND WHY YOU SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN THE DYSLEXIA AWARENESS RUN I struggled for over 7 years without understanding why my child faced challenges in the three core areas of learning—reading, writing, and arithmetic. I changed teachers and hired private tutors, but nothing seemed to work. It wasn’t until I met a visitor from the United States during my tourism work that my eyes were opened—this guest introduced me to the word DYSLEXIA. That revelation changed my life. In 2021, I created a WhatsApp group and brought together professionals and parents of children facing similar challenges so we could learn and support one another. By 2023, I made the decision to officially establish a non-governmental organization—Dyslexia Tanzania—with the goal of raising awareness, supporting children and families affected by dyslexia, and advocating for inclusive education. To date, the organization has reached over 1,000 teachers and more than 1,300 parents and guardians through various community education programs, including school and office awareness seminars, an online school, and events such as the Talent Show and the Dyslexia Awareness Run.
