Dyslexia is a learning disability/difficulty that affects 20% of people in the world. In 5 people 1 has dyslexia. Very intelligent people like Steve Jobs (Founder of IPhone) , Richard Branson (founder of Virgin Group - with more than 400 companies), Mohammed Ali the boxer, Albert Einstein (scientist), Thomas Edson (discovered the e truck bulb, just to mention but a few. 50% of NASA Scientist are dyslexic , why because dyslexic people think out of the box and they have great spatial ability. Dyslexia Tanzania spreads awareness about dyslexia and does teachers’ trainings because teachers are the cornerstone of education and we believe when teachers know more they do better. Dyslexic children are labeled lazy, dumb, slow learners, stupid, etc due to lack of awareness, such are the labels we wish to debunk. Join us in spreading awareness about dyslexia and other learning difficulties, nobody chooses to be dyslexic.

WHY I FOUNDED DYSLEXIA TANZANIA AND WHY YOU SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN THE DYSLEXIA AWARENESS RUN I struggled for over 7 years without understanding why my child faced challenges in the three core areas of learning—reading, writing, and arithmetic. I changed teachers and hired private tutors, but nothing seemed to work. It wasn’t until I met a visitor from the United States during my tourism work that my eyes were opened—this guest introduced me to the word DYSLEXIA. That revelation changed my life. In 2021, I created a WhatsApp group and brought together professionals and parents of children facing similar challenges so we could learn and support one another. By 2023, I made the decision to officially establish a non-governmental organization—Dyslexia Tanzania—with the goal of raising awareness, supporting children and families affected by dyslexia, and advocating for inclusive education. To date, the organization has reached over 1,000 teachers and more than 1,300 parents and guardians through various community education programs, including school and office awareness seminars, an online school, and events such as the Talent Show and the Dyslexia Awareness Run. *KWA NINI NILIANZISHA DYSLEXIA TANZANIA NA KWA NINI USHIRIKI MBIO ZA DYSLEXIA AWARENESS* Nilihangaika kwa miaka zaidi ya 7 bila kuelewa kwa nini mwanangu alikuwa na changamoto shuleni katika vipengele vikuu vitatu vya kujifunza yaani kusoma kuandika na kuhesabu. Nilibadili walimu na kumpatia wakufunzi wa muda wa ziada bila mafanikio. Nikiwa katika shughuli zangu za utalii nilifanikiwa kukutana na mgeni kutoka taifa la marekani ambaye alinifungua macho na kunipa mwanga kwa kunitajia neno DYSLEXIA. Ufunuo huu ulibadili maisha yangu. Mwaka 2021 niliunda kikundi cha Whatsapp na kuungana na wataalam pamoja na wazazi wenye watoto wenye changamoto kama hii ili kujifunza zaidi na kupeana faraja. Kufikia mwaka 2023 niliamua kuanzisha shirika lisilo la kiserikali - Dyslexia Tanzania lenye lengo la kuongeza uelewa, kusaidia watoto na familia zinazopitia changamoto hii na kutetea elimu jumuishi. Mpaka sasa shirika hili limefanikiwa kufikia walimu zaidi ya 1000 na wazazi na walezi zaidi ya 1300 kupitia programu mbalimbali za kuelimisha jamii ikiwemo semina za kukuza uelewa mashuleni na maofisini, shule ya mtandao na matukio kama Talent Show na Dyslexia Awareness Run. *Unapoiunga mkono Dyslexia Tanzania kwa kushiriki Dyslexia Awareness Run husaidii shirika tu bali unabadilisha maisha kwa kupaza sauti kuhusu watoto wenye changamoto kama dyslexia na nyinginezo.
