He oversaw the last two general elections in Kenya while serving as the head of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairperson from 2017 to 2023.

A Kenyan police officer sent to Haiti to help rein in violent gangs was fatally shot in a fight with one of the gangs, Kenyan authorities said Sunday. The shooting happened in the western Artibonite region, where Kenyan police sent to neutralize Haitian gangs were conducting an operation this past week. It is the first casualty since the Kenyan-led security mission arrived in the Caribbean country in June 2024. "We salute our fallen hero," Jack Ombaka, the mission's spokesperson, said in a statement. "We will pursue these gangs to the last man standing. We will not let you down."


Sudan "will not accept" any recognition of a parallel government, Foreign Minister Ali Youssef, of the army-aligned government, said on Sunday at a press conference in Cairo. "We will not accept any other country recognising a so-called parallel government," Youssef said, a day after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and a coalition of political and armed groups signed a charter to form a rival administration in rebel-held areas.
