June 5, 2025 A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former Foreign Minister, engaged with a bipartisan group of U.S. legislators at a dinner reception hosted by Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh at Pakistan House. The event saw the attendance of members of Congress, including Representatives Jack Bergman, Tom Suozzi, Ryan Zinke, Maxine Waters, Al Green, Jonathan Jackson, Hank Johnson, Stacey Plaskett, Henry Cuellar, Mike Turner, Riley Moore, George Latimer, and Cleo Fields, among others. Addressing the U.S. legislators, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari presented a compelling case for regional peace and stability, characterizing the delegation's visit as a "mission for peace." "Our Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, gave this delegation a mission, and the mission is peace to engage in dialogue and diplomacy with India to resolve our issues," stated Mr. Bhutto Zardari. Referring to recent war rhetoric from India and the fragile nature of the current ceasefire, Mr. Bhutto Zardari highlighted the inherent risk of future escalation. "While the ceasefire is a welcome start, it is just a start. The reality is that South Asia, India, and Pakistan, and by extension, the rest of the world, are less safe today than when we started this crisis," he asserted. "The threshold for all-out war between India and Pakistan is the lowest it has ever been in our history. As it stands today, if there's a terrorist attack anywhere in India, proof or no proof, it means war,” added Mr. Bilawal. Mr. Bhutto Zardari also informed the members of Congress about the significant threat posed by India’s actions regarding the unilateral suspension of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), which could precipitate future conflicts. "India's threat to cut off Pakistan's water supply to 240 million people is an existential threat.If they implement that threat, it will mean a declaration of war," he declared. Appreciating the crucial role played by the United States in facilitating a ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed nations, the former Foreign Minister urged U.S. legislators to continue their efforts in maintaining peace and stability in South Asia. "We're here to appeal to you, requesting the United States to aid us in this pursuit for peace. The United States, if it puts its might behind peace, can speak to India and explain how it's in all our interests to resolve our issues, including the core issue of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK)," the Chairman noted. He also underscored the paramount importance of diplomacy, calling upon the U.S. Government and Congress to actively facilitate a constructive engagement between India and Pakistan. "Just as urgently as we needed the United States government's help to achieve the ceasefire, we need your assistance today to help engage India and prevent policies that lead to regional and global insecurity," said Mr. Bhutto Zardari. The U.S. Congress members assured their full support for regional peace and stability in South Asia, commending the delegation for their comprehensive briefing on the ongoing crisis. “امن کے مشن“ نے امریکی کانگریسی استقبالیہ میں مرکزی حیثیت اختیار کی بلاول بھٹو زرداری کی قیادت میں اعلیٰ سطحی پاکستانی وفد کی امریکی قانون سازوں سے کلیدی ملاقاتیں *واشنگٹن ڈی سی، 6 جون 2025* پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی کے چیئرمین اور سابق وزیر خارجہ جناب بلاول بھٹو زرداری کی قیادت میں ایک اعلیٰ سطحی پارلیمانی وفد نے پاکستان ہاؤس میں پاکستانی سفیر رضوان سعید شیخ کی میزبانی میں منعقدہ عشائیہ استقبالیہ میں دو جماعتی امریکی قانون سازوں کے گروپ سے ملاقات کی۔ اس تقریب میں امریکی کانگریس کے اراکین بشمول جیک برگمین، ٹام سوزی، ریان زنکے، میکسن واٹرز، ایل گرین، جوناتھن جیکسن، ہینک جانسن، اسٹیسی پلاکٹ، ہنری کیوئلار، مائیک ٹرنر، رائلی مور، جارج لیٹیمیر اور کلیو فیلڈز سمیت دیگر نے شرکت کی۔ امریکی قانون سازوں سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے چیئرمین بلاول بھٹو زرداری نے خطے میں امن و استحکام کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کیا اور وفد کے دورے کو ’’امن کا مشن‘‘ قرار دیا۔ تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے بلاول بھٹو زرداری نے کہا کہ " وزیرِاعظم محمد شہباز شریف نے اس وفد کو ایک مشن دیا ہے، اور وہ مشن ہے امن— جس میں بھارت سے بات چیت اور سفارت کاری کے ذریعے مسائل کا حل تلاش کرنا شامل ہے"۔ حالیہ بھارتی جنگی بیانیے اور موجودہ جنگ بندی کی نازک نوعیت کا حوالہ دیتے ہوئے بلاول بھٹو زرداری نے مستقبل میں ممکنہ کشیدگی کے خطرات پر روشنی ڈالی۔ ’’جنگ بندی خوش آئند ضرور ہے، لیکن یہ محض ایک آغاز ہے۔ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ جنوبی ایشیا، بھارت اور پاکستان، اور بالواسطہ طور پر پوری دنیا، آج اس بحران کے آغاز کے وقت کی نسبت زیادہ غیر محفوظ ہے" بلاول بھٹو زرداری‘‘ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ، ’’پاکستان اور بھارت کے درمیان مکمل جنگ کی حد آج ہماری تاریخ میں کبھی بھی اتنی کم نہیں رہی۔ اگر بھارت میں کہیں بھی دہشت گردی کا کوئی واقعہ پیش آتا ہے، ثبوت ہو یا نہ ہو، اس کا مطلب جنگ سمجھا جاتا ہے۔‘‘ بلاول بھٹو زرداری نے بھارت کی جانب سے یکطرفہ طور پر سندھ طاس معاہدے (Indus Water Treaty) کی معطلی کے ممکنہ نتائج پر بھی امریکی قانون سازوں کو آگاہ کیا۔ ’’بھارت کا 24 کروڑ پاکستانیوں کے لیے پانی بند کرنے کا عندیہ ایک وجودی خطرہ ہے۔ اگر بھارت نے یہ اقدام کیا تو یہ جنگ کے اعلان کے مترادف ہو گا"چیئرمین بلاول بھٹو زرداری سابق وزیر خارجہ نے بھارت اور پاکستان کے درمیان جنگ بندی کے حصول میں امریکہ کے کردار کو سراہا اور امریکی قانون سازوں سے مطالبہ کیا کہ وہ جنوبی ایشیا میں امن و استحکام کے قیام کے لیے اپنی کوششیں جاری رکھیں۔ انہوں نے کہا، ’’ہم یہاں آپ سے اپیل کرنے آئے ہیں کہ امریکہ ہمارے اس امن کے مشن میں ہمارا ساتھ دے۔ اگر امریکہ اپنی قوت امن کے پیچھے لگا دے، تو وہ بھارت کو سمجھا سکتا ہے کہ ہمارے مسائل کو حل کرنا، بشمول بھارتی غیر قانونی طور پر مقبوضہ جموں و کشمیر (IIOJK) کا مسئلہ، ہم سب کے مفاد میں ہے۔‘‘ انہوں نے سفارت کاری کی اہمیت پر زور دیتے ہوئے امریکی حکومت اور کانگریس سے مطالبہ کیا کہ وہ بھارت اور پاکستان کے درمیان بامقصد اور تعمیری بات چیت میں معاونت کریں۔ ’’جس طرح ہمیں جنگ بندی کے لیے امریکہ کی فوری مدد کی ضرورت تھی، آج بھی ہمیں آپ کی فوری مدد درکار ہے تاکہ بھارت کو ایسی پالیسیوں سے روکا جا سکے جو خطے اور دنیا کے لیے عدم استحکام کا باعث بنیں" بلاول بھٹو زرداری‘‘ امریکی کانگریس کے اراکین نے جنوبی ایشیا میں امن اور استحکام کے لیے اپنی مکمل حمایت کا یقین دلایا اور جاری بحران پر پاکستانی وفد کی تفصیلی بریفنگ کو بھی سراہا۔ امریکہ میں پاکستان کے سفیر رضوان سعید شیخ نے تقریب کے اختتام پر امریکی قانون سازوں کا شکریہ ادا کیا کہ انہوں نے اس اعلیٰ سطحی پارلیمانی وفد کے ساتھ ملاقات کی اور تبادلہ خیال کیا۔
