GARISSA COUNTY, KENYA THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2025 The livestock value chain is a key economic lifeline for the pastoralist community residing in North Eastern region. The Government is spearheading a restocking programme at a cost of Ksh. 1 billion to cushion farmers whose animals were decimated by drought. 55,000 goats and sheep will be distributed to 10,000 farmers to support their economic sustenance at household level. To facilitate access to the international market and fetch livestock keepers better returns, the nationwide vaccination programme targeting 22 million cows and 50 million small stocks (goats and sheep) is on. We encourage all farmers to avail their animals for vaccination and ignore falsehoods being peddled by detractors. Since independence, only 3,000 title deeds have been issued in Garissa County. Today, 3,500 land owners were handed their land ownership documents by President William Samoei Ruto and a further 4,500 title deeds are being processed to give land owners social and economic benefits.
