18thFebPost 📢 ENERGY PRICE RISE ALERT: Here’s what you need to know! ⚡💷 Energy bills are set to increase again in April, with analysts forecasting another price cap rise. Why⁉️Because our electricity prices are still tied to the cost of gas, even when renewables are producing cheaper energy. Since 2020, fossil fuel giants have raked in £483 BILLION in profits, while households struggle with soaring bills. Meanwhile, some politicians blame net zero and green policies, but the real issue is our over-reliance on gas. ✅ We need investment in renewables to bring bills down for good. ✅ We need better home insulation to make energy affordable. ✅ And we need urgent government action to break this cycle of high prices! Until then, check your energy tariff carefully—don’t get locked into bad deals with high exit fees. It's time to call out the gaslighting and fight for a fair, green energy system! 🌍⚡ #EnergyCrisis #FuelPoverty

🔎 A Loophole That Cost Billpayers BILLIONS Energy network firms have made tens of billions in profits—but a specific loophole in Ofgem’s price controls has handed them an extra £4 billion windfall at the expense of struggling households. Citizens Advice’s analysis of Ofgem data has revealed that these monopoly firms are pocketing windfall profits—profits that should be going back to struggling billpayers. 📢 Simon Francis, End Fuel Poverty Coalition: “These firms have a virtual monopoly over vital grid infrastructure. That’s why it is so important for the regulator to do its job.” 🚨 The reality: ⚡ Millions are in energy debt—totaling £3.8 billion ⚡ Bills remain 67% higher than in 2021 ⚡ The regulator failed to act despite warnings 💡 This loophole was a predictable mistake—and network firms must now return this money to struggling households through debt relief and targeted bill support.

🔍 ONE FIRM HAS MADE OVER £300 PROFIT PER HOUSEHOLD SINCE THE ENERGY CRISIS BEGAN Centrica has raked in £9 BILLION in operating profits since 2020—equivalent to £310 per UK household—while millions struggle in cold, damp homes. 📈 In 2024 alone:
⚡ £1.5bn in operating profits
⚡ £2.3bn in pre-tax earnings
⚡ Another massive share buyback programme—instead of helping struggling households 📢 Simon Francis, End Fuel Poverty Coalition:
“Centrica continues to post massive profits while people struggle to stay warm. A more socially responsible use of this money would be helping homes become more energy efficient or reducing standing charges.” 🚨 The reality:
🏠 People can’t afford to heat their homes
📊 Gas and oil giants have made £483 BILLION since 2020
💡 The only real solution? Insulation & investing in homegrown energy

🔄 Following up on last week's Energy Price Cap warning we highlighted the alarming reality of rising energy bills—and today, we’re reinforcing that message. 📢 On February 25th, Ofgem will confirm what we already know: energy bills are set to rise again in April. 📈 Since July 2024, household energy costs have climbed in step with gas prices. Under marginal pricing rules, gas sets electricity prices up to 40% of the time, driving costs even higher. 🔥 With gas prices hitting a two-year high, households are feeling the squeeze—proof that the UK’s reliance on fossil fuels is failing people. We need urgent action for fairer, sustainable energy solutions. ⚡ 💚#EnergyCrisis #FuelPoverty #RenewableEnergy #ActNow

📢 BREAKING: Energy bills set to rise again 📢 Ofgem has confirmed the energy price cap will increase, this means the average household is set to pay over £800 more per year for their energy compared to winter 2020/21 - a 77% increase. 🚨 Also included in the small print is a clause that will allow energy suppliers to increase the profits (EBIT) made on every customer’s bill by 4.1% compared to the current quarter! It beggars belief that Ofgem is increasing the profit allowance for suppliers in the current climate. With the cost of gas set to be DOUBLE what it was in 2020/21, those who rely on more energy—whether due to family size, medical needs, or keeping warm—will be hit hardest. (Remember that under marginal pricing rules, gas sets electricity prices up to 40% of the time, driving costs even higher.) This crisis must end. The Chancellor needs to step up with a £13.2bn Warm Homes Plan to cut bills, invest in renewables, and stop our reliance on volatile gas prices. People can’t keep paying the price. It’s time for action. 🔥 #EnergyCrisis #WarmHomesNow #FuelPoverty

The soaring cost of gas is driving the current spike in energy bills. "The only way out of the problem is to improve our energy security and for the Chancellor to announce a £13.2bn, fully-funded, Warm Homes Plan in the Comprehensive Spending Review." https://www.endfuelpoverty.org.uk/households-face-6-4-energy-bills-hike-as-costs-of-gas-doubles/

The Climate Change Committee's latest report shows that moving away from fossil fuels in the UK is a huge opportunity. It could lead to energy bills coming down by £716 a year while also reducing our reliance on volatile global gas markets. This is in stark contrast to today, where are dependent on the USA for 10% of the gas we use and fossil fuel markets are driving up bills. 🔹 “The prize of significantly lower bills and a more secure energy supply is one worth fighting for.” But big action is needed now. The next decade will require substantial investment, starting with £13.2bn for the Warm Homes Plan in the upcoming Comprehensive Spending Review. A penny less, and millions will face further winters in cold homes. For next winter, the Government must ensure expanded Warm Home Discount support reaches all vulnerable households. A cleaner, cheaper, and fairer future is within reach – but only if we demand it. #NetZero #ClimateAction #WarmHomes #EnergySecurity
