It's going to be cold over the next couple of days, with temperatures dropping below freezing. In response, the London Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been activated. SWEP is in place to help homeless people get out of the cold. If you think someone might be sleeping rough, you can alert outreach services via StreetLink at https://thestreetlink.org.uk/ There is also support for you and your loved ones, as well as tips and advice to keep safe and healthy in winter at https://bit.ly/wf-winter.

A safe space to share experiences and gain support. 🎤 3pm – 4pm – Lyrical therapy. Group sessions where individuals can express themselves through rap, spoken word and poetry. ❗ *From March 2025, black bin collections will be changing for some residents.* If you live in a kerbside property, your black bins will be collected every two weeks instead of every week. If you live in a block of flats or anywhere that has a communal bin, your refuse bins will still be collected every week. Green bins and food waste bins will still be collected weekly, and brown bins for garden waste will continue to be collected every other week. For some residents, this change will start on the week beginning Monday 24 March, and for others it will be the week beginning Monday 31 March. We are sending information in the post to kerbside households in Waltham Forest to alert everyone to this schedule change, and to provide a guide for which items to place in which bins. Please do help to share the information with your neighbours and local networks if possible. Find out more: https://bit.ly/WFbinchanges

You can now plan cremations for your loved ones in Waltham Forest. On Tuesday 14 January, planning permission was granted for the new crematorium at Chingford Mount Cemetery on Old Church Road. It will be the first crematorium to ever exist in the borough, and features state-of-the-art filtration equipment that keeps the environment in mind. The new crematorium will provide access to essential services that support residents through times of bereavement and grief. Design plans include a serene chapel and beautifully landscaped gardens, where visitors can pause for quiet reflection 🤍 Construction is set to begin in summer 2025 with completion expected by summer 2026. Did you know that by taking a few simple actions you could increase the protection of your home up to 50 times? Most domestic burglaries are committed by opportunists, who will look for homes that seem unoccupied, have doors or windows left open, or where they think they can hide, for example behind a hedge or fence. Neighbourhood Watch recommends using WIDE(N) when you're leaving the house, which stands for Windows, Interior, Doors, Exterior and Neighbours. To put it simply: WINDOWS - make sure all your windows are locked INTERIOR - put your indoor lights on a timer to give the impression somebody is at home DOORS - double lock doors and never leave a key in the lock (even if you're indoors) EXTERIOR - put your outdoor lights on a motion sensor (NEIGHBOURS) - keep an eye out for your neighbours and if you witness a break in, report it!
