11 February 2025 *Unlawful Arrest and Complicity Allegations Surrounding Cde Mkhululi Jele's Case* A disturbing incident unfolded today, February 11, 2025, as Cde Mkhululi Jele was forcefully arrested by the Plumtree Police at his home. The arrest was made under the guise of law and order, with Jele being charged with disorderly conduct. The events leading up to the arrest began with the Phakamani High School saga last week, where the School Headmaster Nkululeko Vundla and PISI police allegedly held children hostage in the headmaster's office after they had protested against imposition of Shona language under the Heritage subject now being taught in schools. Jele, acting as a conscientious and activist member of the community and Mthwakazi activist, intervened alongside others to challenge the authorities' actions constituting gross misconduct. A team of 13 Comrades deployed by the Commander of the party were led by Secretary General Velile D Moyo, Head of Security Cde Nqobani Donga, Cde Lwazi Khanye youth treasurer , Cde Welcome Moyo youth executive, Cde Zibusiso Mhabahaba youth executive, Honest Moyo youth executive Commissar , Members of Security Bafana Golide, Gayigusu, Political analyst Mloyiswa Maphosa, also MRP members of intelligence and investigation. Eyewitness accounts and audio recordings reveal that Jele and others arrived at the scene, knocked on the door, and were allowed audience. A discussion ensued, during which Jele confronted the headmaster and police (PISI) about holding children hostage without parental consent ,(a gross violation of the educational ethics on children's rights and protection), the headmaster claimed he is also the parent as the headmaster, so were the police who were mistreating children. The charge at the police, however, claim that Jele banged on the headmaster's office door, shouting, which based on the records we have, is a blatant lie and misrepresentation of facts by Headmaster Nkululeko Vundla who possibly opened a case and his lawless PISI guys. Further investigations by our team revealed egregious human rights violations by the police, including intimidation and harassment of a pregnant woman by male police officers, who was handcuffed and detained for hours, forced to reveal Jele's whereabouts. The same male officers arrested and detained the pregnant woman, exacerbating the trauma and distress inflicted upon her and her children. The woman at the house also had two little children under her custody, who latter ended up crying for food while the mother was handcuffed and forced to remain in the house. In a normal society a pregnant woman is respected and as per the law, a male police has no right to arrest a female cuffing her, The woman had committed no crime deserving that, she was harassed just because she was found in the house and is harassed by these Shona male police officers who are unprofessional. The police also used dogs to intimidate the woman, as one said, we now bringing your size" refering to police dogs that later came with other police, exposing their lack of professionalism as the police force at Plumtree. Moreover, the police officers involved in the arrest were all Shona, perpetuating concerns of tribalism targeting the Mthwakazi people. The police used excessive force to break into Jele's home and effect his arrest, disregarding his rights and fundamental freedoms. Jele's arrest and detention have sparked outrage, with many calling for Headmaster Nkululeko Vundla's resignation and demanding justice for Jele. We will pursue the case until all culprits are exposed and justice is served. We will also be opening a case against the School headmaster Nkululeko Vundla and the police officers who harassed the children. The incident has exposed gross incompetence, tribalism, and police brutality, highlighting the flawed justice system in delivering justice to the people in Zimbabwe. The Ministry of Education's handling of the heritage subject curriculum has also been called into question. Cde Jele is represented by lawyer Thuto Mavula, stationed in Plumtree and working with Dumusani Dube of Abammeli. The case will be heard tomorrow at Plumtree Magistrates Court at 8am.
