Google *DeepMind and Google Research* have launched a new website called Weather Lab that shares their AI weather models today. The experimental AI model can also generate 50 different scenarios for the storm. The research teams have also released a new paper with details of the core along with an archive on *Weather Lab of historical cyclone* track data, evaluation and backtesting. Google also added that during internal testing they found that the model’s predictions were as accurate and often more accurate than current physics-based methods, they have also partnered with the U.S. National Hurricance Center (NHC) to evaluate further how effective the model is. The Weather Lab website also shows a comparison between how AI models perform and how the traditional models perform. Google has also released other AI weather prediction models like GenCast which surpassed one of the physics-based models *97.2 percent of the time* , as per a study published in Nature.

Different *artificial intelligence (AI) models,* which can create images, answer questions, or code, can now be run locally on Android smartphones. Last week, Google launched a new app that enables users to run various AI models from the Hugging Face platform directly on their phones, without an internet connection. The app, named *Google AI Edge Gallery,* is currently available for Android, and an iOS version is expected soon. It searches, downloads, and runs AI models on the phone, using its built-in processor. AI models that run online in the cloud are usually more powerful, but there could be certain drawbacks. For example, users may be uncomfortable sharing personal or sensitive data with remote servers, or they might want to use AI features when they don’t have Wi-Fi or cellular data. Google is calling this an “experimental Alpha release”. The app can be downloaded from GitHub.

The gesture works anywhere on the lock screen, making it a much more intuitive alternative to pressing the power button. However, unlike Android devices from OEMs like Samsung and OnePlus, Pixel devices notably lack the reverse functionality, which might finally make its way to users with Android 16: a double-tap gesture to turn the screen off. Earlier in April, hidden elements found in Android 16 Beta 4 suggested that double-tap gesture could soon let Pixel users turn off their screens. Expected to land with the first quarterly Android 16 release later this year (QPR1), strings hinting at the feature's Settings app page have now been found in Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1, giving us a better idea about how the gesture will function. Shared by credible Android analyst Mishaal Rahman in a report for Android Authority, the tool will appear as a toggle under Settings → System → Gestures → Double tap to turn off screen. *Google's implementation is limited to the lock screen* Unfortunately, though, unlike Samsung and OnePlus' implementation, Pixel device users will only be able to 'turn off' their screen when they're on the lock screen. Google's implementation will not work on the home screen. OnePlus lets you double tap anywhere on the home screen to lock your device. Samsung, similarly, lets you double tap anywhere on the home or lock screen to turn your device's screen off. Google's implementation, according to what can be observed at the moment, will only let you "double tap an empty space on the lock screen to turn off the screen." Screenshots of OnePlus and Samsung's respective double tap to turn screen off settings. Google's implementation would only be useful to turn off the screen once you've checked all pending notifications on the lock screen, or when you're done looking at your lock screen widgets. For reference, lock screen widgets are expected to be available with Android 16 QPR1 later this year. Regardless of the limitation, the eventual introduction of the gesture is a positive step for Pixel usability, and broader home screen functionality could always be added in future updates.

*Clipboard manager The best way to use the copy and paste feature* We use typing and scrolling mainly to communicate and access information. While scrolling is simple, typing can be a bit of a headache when you're dealing with a long piece of information. That's when you copy and then paste text. It can be frustrating if you do it repeatedly. This is where the Clipboard manager comes in handy. The Clipboard feature stores texts, images, and links from various places, so you don't have to jump back and forth to paste them in one place. You don't have to download an app from the Google Play Store for this. The keyboard app available as the default option on your Android phone has this feature. Gboard, which is the common keyboard app across all Android phones, allows you to store texts and images for an hour. However, this feature isn't enabled by default in most keyboard apps. If you use Gboard, enable it manually by tapping the Clipboard icon on the left.
