In February, a team from SKH travelled to Jordan on a humanitarian mission, providing medical care to 2,000 refugees across three remote camps over five days. The team comprised Dr Mohamed Fahamy Koenitz, Resident Physician; Ahmad Khairil, Senior Nurse Manager; and Hafiz Tahir, Staff Nurse, from the Department of Emergency Medicine, along with Siti Nasriah Yusri, Nurse Educator from Nursing Education and Development. They witnessed first-hand the harsh conditions faced by the refugee community, including limited access to clean water, essential medication and regular healthcare. ❤️ “Medical missions like these play a vital role in reaching vulnerable communities,” shared Dr Fahamy. We’re incredibly proud of our team for stepping up to care beyond borders!

From handling 14,000 unique instruments to supporting 2,600 different types of surgeries, their innovative solution has streamlined our daily operations. SKH is one of the healthcare institutions taking part in a $5.77 million research initiative led by SGH! The five-year Singapore Systemic Sclerosis Precision Medicine Project (Sysmic) aims to better diagnose and treat systemic sclerosis, a rare and life-threatening autoimmune disease with largely unknown causes. Around 300 patients will be recruited to analyse genetic data and develop more precise diagnostic tools and personalised treatments, especially for Asian patients who tend to have lower survival rates. Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a rare immune condition that is often mistaken for multiple sclerosis (MS) due to overlapping symptoms. While MS may impact the brain, NMOSD primarily affects the eyes and spinal cord.
