*INTERNAL MESSAGE TO ALL MELPWU MEMBERS* Distinguished Colleagues, The leadership of MELPWU stands in full solidarity with our colleagues in the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) as they embark on their rightful industrial action in demand for the implementation of the 2024 Collective Agreement. This is not just about nurses or one union. This is about justice for every health professional who continues to sacrifice daily under unfair and unequal conditions. The grievances of GRNMA mirror our own - delayed recruitments, stalled financial clearance, poor conditions of service, and lack of a dedicated regulatory council, directorate and proper career progression. We urge all members of MELPWU to remain vigilant, united, and fully mobilized. If our collective concerns continue to be ignored, we will not hesitate to take every lawful and strategic step necessary to defend our rights. Healthcare is a team effort and our voices must be heard. Let no one feel alone in this fight. We are in this together, and we will move as one. We cannot be silent. We cannot be ignored. Stand by. Stay strong. Stay ready. In unwavering solidarity, *DR. PROSPER SENYO SOKPE* Deputy General Secretary, MELPWU Wednesday 4th June, 2025

*Solidarity from Allied Health Professionals* We acknowledge receipt of the solidarity message from the Coalition of Unemployed Allied Health Professionals. That is a positive step forward. As Medical Laboratory Professionals, we painstakingly started the necessary step to demand urgent redress for the longstanding challenges we face: discrimination, neglect, and severe understaffing. We acknowledge that the fight for financial clearance and recruitment is not just a sectoral issue - it is a challenge shared by many allied health professions and we accept your solidarity in good faith. It is however important to emphasize that MELPWU started this advocacy technically and administratively with specific mandate from its membership. We recognize that other professions under the Allied Health umbrella - such as Disease Control Officers, Physiotherapists, Nutritionists, Radiographers, Health Information Officers, and others - may face similar challenges but we do not represent them directly. Because their leadership and unions are distinct, we must exercise caution in our public statements in order not to overstep our boundaries when attempting to speak on their behalf without proper mandate. We have however informed their national leadership about our roadmap and ongoing efforts and will continue to offer full support. That said, this is a shared struggle. Any unemployed allied health professional experiencing unemployment, delayed recruitment, or workforce challenges is encouraged to join this call. Solidarity strengthens our collective voice and influence. This is not the time for silence or fragmentation. It is time for all of us to unite where our interests align - respectfully, strategically, and purposefully. Let it be clear that this struggle is about justice, sustainability, and quality healthcare delivery for all Ghanaians. It is not a political struggle or any selfish agenda. If you are affected, do not hesitate to step forward and join the call. Together, we move forward. In solidarity. National Secretariat, MELPWU Saturday 24th May, 2025

*UPDATE: COURTESY VISIT BY THE NEW DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES AT THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH TO THE MELPWU NATIONAL SECRETARIAT IN ACCRA* Distinguished Colleagues, We are pleased to inform you that the newly appointed Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Health (MoH), Mr. Fred Mensah-Acheampong, paid a courtesy visit to the National Secretariat of the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers’ Union (MELPWU) on Tuesday, 20th May 2025. The purpose of the visit was to introduce himself, gain deeper insight into the challenges facing the health workforce, and build strong working relationships as part of his vision to promote inclusive and responsive HR policy formulation and implementation. As a union, we warmly welcomed the opportunity to engage with the Director and his team. We used the occasion to highlight key issues of concern to our members, including: * Delayed recruitment and financial clearance for graduates. * Career progression and scheme of service for the profession. * Misalignment in the market premium and grading structure for medical laboratory professionals. * Placement of MLSD graduates and Specialists. * Progress on the implementation of the Conditions of Service and facility-level allowances. * Establishment of directorates for underrepresented professions, especially the Directorate of Medical Laboratory Science. * Strengthening engagement between the HRHD, and the union. Significantly, MELPWU was the first stop on Mr. Acheampong’s familiarization tour - a gesture that underscores the growing recognition of the strategic role our union continues to play in shaping the health workforce agenda in Ghana. Mr. Acheampong was impressed with how far the union has come and expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and reiterated his commitment to fostering inclusive, transparent, and data-driven HR practices within the health sector. He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration with unions and professional bodies to address existing gaps and drive reform. MELPWU later hosted the executive leadership of the Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anaesthetists (GACRA) and the Health Accounting Staff Association of Ghana (HASAG) at the Secretariat. Together, we engaged in fruitful dialogue with the Director and reinforced the call for strengthened collaboration between HRHD and health worker associations. We remain optimistic that this visit marks the beginning of a more engaged and collaborative relationship between the HR Directorate and the broader health workforce. MELPWU looks forward to working closely with the HRHD to build a health system anchored on equity, motivation, fairness, and effective workforce management. Yours fraternally, *DR. CEPHAS KOFI AKORTOR* General Secretary, MELPWU Date: Friday 23rd May, 2025
