This Bill is close to my heart because it addresses challenges that I frequently hear about from Yio Chu Kang residents during my Meet-the-People Sessions. Seniors like Mr. A, who feels his expertise is often overlooked, and Mrs. B, who struggles with limited training opportunities, remind us of the subtle, yet pervasive, age discrimination that exists today. To tackle this, I called for neutral channels where seniors can voice concerns without fear, fostering open dialogue and recognizing their invaluable contributions. Mental health is another critical area I championed during my speech. I applauded the Bill’s protection of employees with mental health conditions while urging for sensitivity and compassion in workplace policies. Employers must see the immense potential of individuals with mental health challenges, provided they have the right support. By promoting awareness, education, and practical accommodations, we can create workplaces where everyone can thrive, regardless of their mental health status. Finally, I touched on the unique needs of small businesses and religious organizations under this Bill, advocating for clarity and tailored support to ensure compliance is practical and fair.
