📚 *Daily One Missionary Biography*📚 ✅ *February 26 *✅ 👍 *ENGLISH*👍 🛐 * Nathan Brown* 🛐 Birth: 22-06-1807 Death: 01-01-1886 Native Place: New Ipswich, New Hampshire, America Place of Vision: Assam (India), Japan We are blessed to have Bible in our hands in our mother tongue. But many out there didn’t have that privilege and many men of God came forward to meet their needs. Nathan Brown was an American Baptist missionary who was well-known for his works on the Assamese language. Born in New Ipswich, he graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. At the age of 25 he, along with his wife sailed to Burma to serve as a missionary. There, for some period he helped Adoniram Judson in translation works. Later he was put on a mission to serve in the Indian state of Assam. The Bible that was available by then in the Assamese language was the translation of William Carey which contained many Bengali and Sanskrit words. Brown committed himself to bring out the Bible in pure Assamese and published the New Testament in 1848. In the same year, he published a book on Assamese grammar also. He also translated prayers, edited an Assamese-English dictionary, and published several other historical and scholarly works. His extensive efforts in literary works of the Assamese language, which then was not a recognized language, played a great role for the language to gain its recognition. Later he returned to America where he joined the abolitionist movement and fought to end slavery in the country. At the age of 65, once again he was on his overseas missionary journey to Japan. In the Japanese city Yokohama, he joined Jonathan Scobie (also known as Jonathan Goble), the first Baptist missionary to Japan. Joining hands together, they established the first Japanese Baptist church in Yokohama in 1873. Brown toiled to bring out the Japanese Bible print in a simple readable text to make the Bible accessible to the less educated people. 📚 *Daily One Missionary Biography*📚 ✅ *February 25*✅ 👍 *ENGLISH*👍 🛐 * George Wishart * 🛐 Birth: 1513 Death: 1546 Native Place: Montrose, Scotland Place of Vision: Scotland George Wishart was born into a noble family in Montrose and was well educated. He graduated from the University of Leuven and started teaching Greek in a school in Montrose. There he also taught the students to read the New Testament in Greek, for which he was falsely accused of heresy. So, he fled the country and traveled all along Europe trying to get a clearer grasp of Protestant theology. In 1542, he joined Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he was much influenced by the teachings of Swiss and German reformers. With a newfound earnestness to preach the truth, he returned to Scotland in 1543. Despite his life being threatened, and once narrowly escaping an attempt on his life, he traveled throughout Scotland, denouncing the errors of the Pope and spiritual abuse in the church. While he was ministering at Ayrshire, he heard about a plague outbreak in Dundee and immediately returned to that place. He remained there ministering both to the spiritual and temporal necessities of the afflicted until the pestilence had almost wholly disappeared. He preached to them about the sin which is deadlier than the plague and how they can be healed of their sin by His (Christ’s) stripes. His faithful labors at Dundee enraged Cardinal Beaton who plotted to kill him. It was during this time, a young man named John Knox who later became a leader of the Protestant reformation, followed Wishart as his bodyguard. Wishart was later arrested and condemned to death even though he answered all the accusations against him by quoting from the Bible. He was burned at the stake where he prayed for his accusers and declared his forgiveness towards them. 📚 *Daily One Missionary Biography*📚 ✅ *February 27 *✅ 👍 *ENGLISH*👍 🛐 * James the Just * 🛐 Birth: Early 1st century Death: ~ 62 AD Country: present Israel Place of Vision: Jerusalem, Judea In the Bible, three people stood as pillars of the early Church in Jerusalem. James was one of them besides Apostles Peter and John. Although James was mentioned as one of the brothers of Lord Jesus Christ in the Bible, he did not believe Jesus as the Son of God during His life on the earth. However, after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, he believed and surrendered his life to serve Him. He was one among them to whom Jesus appeared after His resurrection. James was also called an Apostle though he was not among the original twelve Apostles. His commitment was to minister among Jews. He was a prominent figure in the early Church and played a key role in the Council of Jerusalem. When the confusion arose in the Church of Antioch regarding the practice of circumcision and other Mosaic laws by the gentile Christians, James patiently listened to everyone’s views, stated his opinion, and amicably solved the issue. His answer demonstrated his knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures, his discernment, his desire for peace within the church, and strong, impartial leadership. Accordingly, a letter was written to the gentile Christians exhorting the believers to not burden themselves with rituals and instructing them to abstain from being a part of anything related to idol worship and fornication. James is considered as the most likely author of the epistle of James in the Bible. This epistle urges the believers to manifest their faith in their daily lives by seeking heavenly wisdom, abandoning worldly pleasures, and being considerate towards the poor.
