01 March 2025 Ndera FM News Update Hwange Power Station Units to Undergo Maintenance By Tanaka Mutadzakupa ZESA Holdings has announced scheduled maintenance for two units at the Hwange Power Station. Unit 7 will undergo Class B maintenance from March 2 to 29, 2025, following the successful maintenance of Unit 8 in January 2025. Additionally, Unit 6 will be taken offline for statutory maintenance from March 15 to May 14, 2025, to ensure readiness for increased generation during the peak winter season. To mitigate the impact of these outages, ZESA has assured the nation that various strategies are in place to ensure a stable supply. The Kariba Power Station will be managed carefully to address periods of low supply, with output adjusted as necessary to conserve water for future use. This maintenance is aimed at ensuring a balanced and sustainable energy mix. 01 March 2025 Ndera FM News Marondera Man Loses $15,723 in Robbery Incident Story by Atuperi Ndala Marondera- A Marondera resident was robbed of $15,723 and his cellphone by a group of unknown robbers on February 22, 2025. The victim, who had recently returned from delivering biscuits in Mutare, was approached by two men at his residence's main gate, who requested directions. As he provided the directions, the robbers dragged him into a nearby vehicle, where three other accomplices were waiting. The robbers demanded that the victim surrender his belongings, and he handed over the cash and his phone. The robbers then stripped him of his clothes and abandoned him at a local farm. The victim sought assistance from a nearby homestead and reported the incident to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Marondera Central. ZRP Mashonaland East Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazowachiyi confirmed the incident and urged the public to exercise caution. Inspector Chazowachiyi advised against carrying large sums of money, encouraged the use of banking services, and warned against moving around at night. 24 February 2025 Ndera FM News Marondera Urban Business Association Reminds Business Owners To Settle Outstanding Shop Lisence Fees Story by Tanaka Mutadzakupa Marondera- The Marondera Urban Business Association (MUBA) has issued a reminder to all business owners in Marondera town to settle their outstanding shop license fees by February 28, 2025. In a statement issued on February 22, 2025, the MUBA Chairman, Mr. Carlos Pindirire urged all businesses to take immediate action to avoid any disruptions to their operations. "We encourage all business owners to visit the council offices to settle their outstanding fees or to discuss a payment plan," he said. According to MUBA, failure to comply with the payment deadline may result in the council taking action, which could impact businesses. "We urge all businesses to take this matter seriously and settle their outstanding fees to avoid any unnecessary disruptions," Mr. Pindirire added. 24 February 2025 Ndera FM News Tennis Community Remembers Lazarus Manjoro Story by Nathan Mubwanda Marondera - The tennis community in Mashonaland East Province recently gathered to honor the late Lazarus Manjoro, a pioneering coach who dedicated his life to promoting tennis in the region. A two-day tournament, held at Watershed College and sponsored by Select Health Care, celebrated Manjoro's legacy. He spent decades mentoring young players and promoting the sport throughout the region, establishing tennis as a popular sporting discipline in Mashonaland East. Mr. Biggie Magarira of Select Health Care praised Manjoro's passion for tennis, calling him "a true unifier in sport." Manjoro's daughter, Rufaro Manjoro, a well-known tennis player based in France, was also celebrated during the tournament. Also in attendance was Mr. Raymond Charewa, the Secretary General for the Tennis Board in Mashonaland East, who promised to continue organizing similar events to keep Manjoro's legacy alive. Mrs. Silvia Manjoro, the wife of the late Manjoro, expressed her gratitude to the tennis community for honoring her late husband's memory, saying it was a fitting tribute to his contributions to the sport. This event also celebrated Zimbabwe's rich tennis history, including the achievements of Byron Black, who became the world's number one ranked doubles player in 1994 and won the French Open that same year. Black represented Zimbabwe in the Davis Cup alongside his brother Wayne, and his sister Cara won several titles in doubles and mixed doubles competitions. 27 February 2025 TIMB Introduces New Regulations for Tobacco Sales The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has announced that all tobacco not produced under a contract arrangement must be sold at auction floors during the 2024/25 marketing season.TIMB is urging merchants and contractors to comply with the regulations, particularly the new requirement that all freely produced tobacco must be sold strictly at auction floors. “We challenge all the 55 merchants licensed this season that there is no room for you to buy free tobacco as it is an auction crop that must be directed to auction floors only. Anyone, farmer or merchants, caught breaching the rule will be penalised,” TIMB Chief Executive Officer Mr. Emmanuel Matsvaire said. The Executive Director of the Agricultural Industry Development Support Institute for Southern Africa, Mr. Jeffrey Takawira, has called for an automated system that ensures contract floors cease to accept the golden leaf once they reach their contracted threshold. TIMB has additionally implemented a biometric system aimed at identifying and eliminating unscrupulous farmers and contractors who have been contributing to side marketing, distorting the pricing matrix, and threatening the competitiveness offered by auction floors through bidding.
