*Embraer delays E175-E2 to 2027, due to U.S. Pilot union rules.*
Embraer has announced a further four-year delay in the development of the E175-E2, pushing its expected entry into service to at least 2027. The postponement is primarily due to ongoing scope clause agreements in the U.S., which restrict the maximum takeoff weight for aircraft seating up to 76 passengers.
The E175-E2 exceeds this weight limit by 5,400 kg (12,000 lb), making it ineligible for widespread adoption by U.S. regional carriers that operate under these agreements. As a result, Embraer has opted to extend the aircraft’s development timeline.
Originally scheduled to enter service in 2021, the E175-E2 first flew in December 2019. Designed to seat up to 90 passengers, the aircraft was intended to be a more fuel-efficient and advanced successor to the E175. However, regulatory constraints continue to challenge its market viability.
